Subject matter:

Firefly, Serenity, and food.

Please note that the artwork cannot contain any images whose copyright legally belongs to Mutant Enemy, Fox Network, Universal Pictures, or anybody other than yourself.

Submission:

Submit your artwork to the project as a file via email to: submissions@bigdamnchefs.com. Submissions are due by 11:59pm on June 15th, 2006.

Format:

PNG or JPG (PNG preferred).

PNG - Portable Network Graphics format is a completely loss-less compression. Gradients come out much smoother and do not have the distortions that may appear in a JPG. PNG is CafePress.com's recommendation for images.

JPG - JPGs support over 16 million colors, but slightly "distort" the image to compress the file size. For photos, the human eye cannot tell the subtle changes in color, but along straight edges and in pictures with large solid colors, distortion becomes very apparent. If you save using JPG format, use the lowest compression setting possible. Where this setting is located varies with different image software, but they should all have a 1-100 compression factor that you can set. Lower compression means less distortion. If you have the choice of having no compression at all that would be ideal.

300 DPI minimum resolution.

Maximum file size: PNG - 4 MB, JPG - 7 MB.

Image size: the cover of the book is 7.5 inches by 9.25 inches. Use your artistic judgement as to what works best to that scale. Also, please remember that there needs to be room for the title of the book and such.

Please submit color images. Black and white images are welcome, but they will not be considered for the cover (although they might be considered for inclusion in black/white or grayscale within the book).

Prizes:

1st place - your artwork appears on cover, a "Serenity Bank Heist Money Display" donated by the Propstore of London, and a prize package from the Blue Sun Shop.

2nd place - your artwork appears in some form on back cover, and a prize package donated by Blue Moon Novelties.

3rd place - your artwork appears in grayscale in some form within the book, and a prize package donated by the Lilac Trading Station.

Rights:

By submitting images to the Cover Art Contest, you 1) grant the right in perpetuity to the Browncoat Relief Corps to print the image(s) in the publication and/or use your images for any purposes connected to the project including publicity, 2) you affirm that you are the lawful copyright owner of said image(s).
